Function Band Birmingham - FAQs

How much space do you need?

Ideally, we like a performance area of 5x3 metres, but we can play in a slightly smaller space is required. We have played in a wide variety of venues, so can generally make things work.

How is it best to time things?

Usually, we play two sets – one before food is served and one after. The first is generally 45-60 minutes and the second 60-75 minutes. If you like, we’ll play some light background DJ music through our sound system as your guests arrive. The gap for catering is an ideal break for us between sets and means guests who want to move their body don’t lose any dancefloor time in order to eat!

Can I pick the bands playlist?

Let us know in advance what songs from our repertoire you would love to hear (and any you don’t!). We’ll put the set in a tried-and-tested running order to keep the dancefloor full and include your requested songs.

Where will you travel to?

UK and internationally (price to be negotiated).

Can I see you play live?

Almost all of our shows are private events. However, if you do have a show which allows public access, we’ll let you know on https://www.facebook.com/RadioactivePartyBand. You can see a live studio performance we did for Alive in May 2016 on our homepage or media page.

Will you learn our special song?

Most of the time, yes. We will be honest with you and advise you if our instrumentation or time-constraints mean we can’t do it justice.

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

Our video showcases how we sound as a live band. Our shows tend to be more energetic as we play off the crowd and the general party atmosphere.

How do I book you?

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

We bring a laptop with DJ software to all of our gigs and are happy to take requests for songs. We normally play background music between sets and the DJ package means one of us will operate the laptop all night to take requests and make basic announcements.

Can we make DJ requests in advance to my event?

Yes! Infact, we highly recommend it if you can provide a playlist, that way we know it’s tailored to your tastes completely and it also avoids disappointments if we don’t have a specific song on the night

Alternatively, we have a few wedding friendly playlists and can take the odd request on the night.

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

Yes, but advance notice may be required due to setup time which may incur a small additional fee.

What equipment do you use?

We use a Allen & Heath ZED16FX Mixing desk and 2 x Yamaha DXR 15” Speakers rated at 1200watts each so plenty of power and bass without needing subs. In addition to this we use Seinhesser wireless in ear monitors which help reduce stage noise and enable us to perform to the best of our abilitys.

Do you have lights?

Indeed we do! We’ve got 3 x LED PAR Cans that we use to light ourselves and then we’ve got an additional 2 LED Par cans, a DJ Jelly Jewel and a spotlight to which are elevated on a stand to light up your dancefloor/mirror ball. We’ve also got an awesome 1metre LED light bar to add additional ambience and disco vibes.

How long do you play for?

Set times are usually divided into 2x 1 hour sets - although this is flexible.

What time do you start and finish?

We find it is best to start straight after the first dance (8pm-ish); finish the first set at 9pm-ish ready for buffets etc; and resume around 10pm until 11ish. We are always flexible with the running order as we appreciate arrangements are subject to change. The order is not set in stone and can be sorted on the night subject to circumstances.

How long do you take to set up?

The longer the better! An hour is ideal but we have been known to set up much more quickly when circumstances dictate. An hour is usually plenty of time.

Can I provisionally book you?

Yes, but a provisional booking may be compromised if the band receive a definite offer (i.e. deposit paid). We will always check with you first in this scenario.

What if the band split up before my event?

This is highly unlikely, as we are, and were friends way before forming this band (Luke and Stu, since Secondary School) and we’ve been working this scene for over 7 years.

We love playing live and it’s more ‘play’ than ‘work’ for us – like they say, if you love your job, you never work a day in your life

However, in all seriousness, life can throw all sorts at people so, In the very unlikely occurance that the band splits up before your event, every effort would be made to find a suitable replacement.

Can my sisters/bosses/daughters dog sing with your band?

Yes, but please give plenty of notice before the day along with details of song choice (from the set).

What will the band wear?

Radioactive always dress formally for weddings (trousers/shirt/tie/waistcoat), but attire can be discussed with the band for less formal events.

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

Yes. All of our equipment is PAT tested yearly and we can provide certificates in advance via pdf.

Likewise for Public liability, we have £100000 worth of cover.

Why should I book Radioactive?

If you are looking for a band who perform solidly, have a keen ear for what gets a party started, and who present themselves stylishly then look no further . Combine this with good communication, an understanding of your aspirations for your evening's entertainment, and flexibility then you can't go far wrong with Radioactive.

How much does it cost to book the band?

It depends on your event location so please refer getting a quote using the instant quote widget tool or message for a quote.

Can we see some previous client testimonials?

Yes, they are available to view here.

Do Radioactive have any specific requirements?

Aside from a suitable performance space, as stated above, and a power supply - we're pretty un-diva like. No bowls of M&M’s with the yellow ones removed...etc

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

Most wedding venues and function rooms are fine. Please contact us if you have a stadium in mind!

How loud will the band be?

We pride ourselves on being able to rock a room whilst guests are still able to hold a conversation. We tend to be able to get the balance right in most venues. Please do check if your venue has a sound limiter though as we don’t use an electric drum kit so some venues may not be suitable.

What is the band power requirement?

A minimum of 3 x sockets but the more the merrier.

Do Radioacive offer any additional services?

DJ service - see above.

We are able to make announcements for first dance, cutting of the cake etc. We also offer an acoustic set option - ideal for a musical accompaniment to dinner.
